Apex Systems (Hong Kong) Shotblast services were employed to remove the failed epoxy. We completed 750 m2 each day. The whole area was left completely coarse, clean and dust free, ready for the replacement coat of epoxy which was laid over the following two days.
Thermoplastic Traffic Line Removal
Expansion joints have a limited lifespan. Replacement can be an awkward task.
Using the large VA 30SH planer coupled with special large width cutters, light work is made of removing tough thermoplastic paint.

Apex Systems were hired to grind the 30000 metres of joint walls after the contractor had removed the failed expansion joint.
3 machines and 3 men were able to diamond grind the 30mm deep on both sides. Although the time frame was tight (10am-3pm) we were able to complete 2500 linear metres of joints per day.
Concrete cutting and demolition
The diamond tipped blades cut efficiently and precisely into marble and reinforced concrete.

In Clear Water Bay District we wer called in to cut through three floors to create a lift shaft.
We used the Braun Wall BWS 12H machine. Using this we wer able to cut Three squares identically in line.
Concrete core drilling
Quiet, efficient and precise cutting equipment, for industrial, commercial and residential environments.
The coring rig (pictured) is used for mobile core samples on asphalt roads.

Our coring equipment (above) in association with Thorn Lighting (HK) Ltd is responsible for the 12000 holes drilled in Hong Kong International Airport’s runways, taxiways and aprons.
Concrete, Terrazzo and marble grinding and polishing
Diamond grinding is the optimum way to achieve a smooth finish. It can repair an uneven surface or rain damaged concrete.
Marble, granite and terrazzo surfaces can smoothed and polished to them look brand new.
Diamond grinding is nothing new, although diamond disc technology has come a long way in 40 years.
A-Pex use a dry grinding technique. Using a strong vacuum to take away dust and keep the diamond disc cool. This completely eliminates the problem of slurry that is created when grinding wet.

We were contracted by New Asia Engeineering Ltd. to help leval a series of tennis courts in Sha Tin Garden. A flat surface was needed to apply the new sports coating.
Anti Skid and Grooving

Container Terminal, Nine Tsing Yi

The main contractor called us to find a solution to the widespread problem of rain damaged concrete over a large part of the terminal.
As well as being uneven, the concrete failed the ‘sand patch test,’ a test devised by the highways Department to determine it’s anti-skid
value. From September to December 2003, using grooving machines fitted with Tungsten Carbide blades we repaired all the damaged areas to the government standard, in time for the whole area handover.
Level reduction up to 30mm
Hong Kong’s concrete uses decomposed granite as it’s aggregate. Granite has enormous strength and diamond grinding is obvious answer. However, diamond grinding is efficient for the first few millimetres only. After this the speed is outweighed by the cost of dollars per mm.

Our hydraulic drive VA 30SH Planer takes the surface down up to 30mm in several passes.

In March 2007 we were called into the huge retail and office complex, Mega Box
On floors 3 & 4, the surface was up to 25mm high in places, which meant the laser guided screed would be too thin.
The VA30SH planer was used with an adapted drum. With 6 passes this powerful machine was able to remove the necessary 25 mm.
Polyurethane Removal by Surface Planing
A coarse finish is created on the surface after removal which provides a good bond for the new coating.
No water – as all the waste goes into bags. This means there are no blocked drains to worry about.
The result again is a fast trouble free project.
Admiralty Car Park, Queensway

Admiralty Car Park in Queensway has had it’s fair share of PU coatings over the years. A-Pex were contracted to remove the most recent coating that had been damaged through damp seeping through the concrete floor. Upon inspection we determined that the PU that would have to removed was as thick as a car tyre.
A special type of drum was set up on the planing machines so that it could get underneath the PU and pull it upin the same way as a carpet would be pulled up.
Shotblast was used after the removal to provide an even cleaner surface with an improved bond for the waterproof membrane and coating.

Noise was a problem for the owners of the industrial building. They had tenants in the floors above and below, and since some operating 24 hours a day a noisy job was out of the question.
Over Easter 2007, A-Pex sent in a VA 30SH machine – A 300 kg hydraulically propelled floor, equipped with a special drum that shatters each tile into small pieces. By the time the neighbouring offices returned to work after the holiday the 2600m2 job had been completed.
Surface Preperation (Shotblast)
The process is quick, efficient and creates no airborne dust – so the surface is left ready for the application of coatings.
The process will give you the best surface possible – helping you guarantee against coating failure.
It cleans and profiles concrete surfaces by removing dirt, laitance, curing compounds, sealers and other contaminants in preparation for the application of protective materials.
Surface preparation is considered the most important step of any resinous flooring application. Improper surface preparation could turn what seems to be a simple process into a lengthy, difficult repair.

Anti Skid surfaces require vigorous preparation on concrete or asphalt before they are applied. Shotblast is the only method that can abrade the whole surface uniformly.
The photograph is of the shotblasting of asphalt on Waterloo Road in 2002. Aluminium oxide aggregate in an epoxy / bitumen mix was then applied to create an anti skid surface.

At car park number 4 at Hong Kong International Airport the important issues were noise and speed. Noise because of the proximity of the Regal Hotel only metres away and speed due to the risk of rain the contractor needed to be in and out in the quickest possible time.
Working 12 hour shifts A-Pex completed the whole 6000m2 within 6 days.
Our super quiet Shotblast machine produces a maximum of 82 dBA @ 5 metres – which is not much higher that a household vacuum cleaner.
Epoxy Floor removal by Shotblast
Vacuum (or captive) steel shotblasting is very similar to sand blasting except that the shot is instantly recycled.
Shotblast is used to make a coarse surface on the concrete, asphalt or marble in preparation for the application of sealers, coatings, or polymer overlays.
Dust is kept out of the working environment 100%.
Removes existing coatings and adhesives to provide a non slip surface.
Cleans and profiles concrete surfaces by removing dirt, laitance, curing compounds, sealers and other contaminants in preparation for the application of protective materials.
Quick and comprehensive and with the minimum disruption.
